“A History Condensed”
A group of Baptized believers saw the need to organize a place of worship, so they met in a schoolhouse in Port Perry, Pennsylvania. In 1924 Mount Carmel Baptist Church was organized under the direction of Reverend Charles Douglas. The group continued to meet in this school building in Port Perry (located on the Monongahela River directly below Crestas Terrace). Application for the charter was made October 16, 1924, and the charter was recorded in the Recorder of Deeds Office on November 15, 1924, Charter Book Volume 58 Page 610, in Pittsburgh, PA. Also, lots on Port Perry Road and Clyde Avenue were purchased on September 10, 1924 for $350.00. The Church purchased the seal on April 15, 1~25 and in March 1927 the Church began building an edifice for the first time at its present location.
Over the years, the many pastors that served Mount Carmel brought not only spiritual leadership but also organizational leadership to God’s people. Thus, the church grew, improved and prospered spiritually, physically and financially over the years because God saw fit to bless.
Due to the foresight and wisdom of the leadership, in June 1957 the Church purchased the Crestas Community Center from the North Versailles Township School District for a future educational center that would enable Mount Carmel to better carry out the mandate of the Church….To Win Souls And Edify The Body Of Christ!
Bless God; on Sunday – November 03, 1996, Mount Carmel Church Family marched, To The Glory Of God, into a new edifice magnifying God to the highest and ready to live out our intended purpose as saints of God…TO GLORIFY GOD!!!
Mount Carmel then stepped into the Twenty-First Century praying that God would send a pastor according to HIS heart, which would feed the church with knowledge and understanding…and that, HE did! Praise His Holy Name! Currently, the church is in spiritual transformation whereby the saints are catching the vision, being edified, and seeking the true nature of God! We have expanded by way of disciples, ministries arid Bible studies. For the first time in the history of Mount Carmel a church van was purchased for the purpose of carrying out the commission to evangelize the world. Within the last six months of this year the Lord has been awesome in the lives and life of Mount Carmel Family. One of the greatest understandings and challenges for a church family to live out is found in the statement made by our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.
